How I Take Pictures for My Blog and Instagram

Blogging Tips

Hello humans,

This is one of the most requested posts. Everyday, I get a lot of emails, inboxes and comments people asking me about the pictures and how I do it. So, today I am so excited to share all the things that I do to take my blog and Instagram pictures.

First of all, let me tell you that I do not have a DSLR. In fact, I do not use any camera for the pictures; rather, I take them from my cell phone. I am not only ghareeb but I am also too impatient to accumulate 40 to 50 thousand and then spend it on a camera; I'd rather buy a return tickets to Islamabad. So, I take pictures from my cellphone, I have Samsung S4 that too was gifted to me by my ahem ahem you know who, right?

I really do not think that I have top class pictures, of course, because I do not have a good camera and I think that I need improvement. Also, I am not an expert photographer or anything, so I am sharing just simple ways and tricks that I do to take pictures for my blog or for my instagram account. So, lez just start this.

Research

I plan the content of my blog for a whole month in advance and then make a list of things that I need to photograph. Once I know what I am supposed to take pictures of, I begin the research process. This means I look for inspiration to style my pictures. The best place to take inspiration for photography is pinterest.

Blogging Tips

If I have to take a picture of lipsticks then I just write lipsticks in the search bar and look at the results to see how I can style my pictures. When you take inspiration from picture and add something of your own, it always result in something great and appealing.

Background

The background of your picture can make or break the visual appeal of your pictures. If you look at my Instagram, you will notice that most of the pictures are attractive just because they have a color-happy background. For the background of my pictures, I do have some wooden boards and card sheets that I use to take pictures. Also, in this homy of mine, I do have colored walls so they also make a good background.

In the above picture, I had to photograph my new shoes, so I took out my yellow card sheet and put my shoes on this, just take the picture and later crop it up the unwanted parts and show what you want to show. Hey, I also photograph a lot on this carpet. So, you can basically use anything that can make a good background or base for your pictures.

Props and Styling of the Picture

I have scores of props that I use to style my pictures with. From flowers to leaves to different decoration pieces, I have it all. There are a few things that I especially bought to style my pictures, but there are a few things that were there in my homy already long before I began this blogging thing.

Blogging Tips

Styling of the picture means how to place the shirt on the base and what sort of colors you should add to increase the appeal of the picture is something that no one can teach you. It comes from observation and surrounding yourself with artistic stuff. I am a very artistic person since childhood and I do have a natural aesthetic sense, so I don't have to juggle with it a lot. But, if you are not into art and stuff, what you can simply rely on is flowers. Just add some fresh or fake flowers in your picture and it will take your picture to the next level.

Lighting

Of course, this is one of the quintessential for a great photograph and you have to pay extra attention towards the lighting aspect if you want good pictures. When you don't have a good lighting set up indoors, the best way to make your pictures vividly clear is to click pictures outside in the natural light. I take all my pictures in my terrace (except when I am showing some furniture like I did my coffee table post) and my photo session usually starts just an hour before the sunset.

Editing

Its just recently that I learned a few things about using photoshop and I am utilizing it to the fullest to make my pictures bright and attractive. I don't know anything about photoshop, so I usually do things and make changes through trial and error method. I usually fix my color contrasting and brightness through photoshop. To edit your pictures in Adobe Photoshop upload your image in adobe then go > image > adjustment > color balance/brightness.

Blogging Tips

When I had no clue about photoshop, I used to edit my pictures on Microsoft office Picture Manager. In the edit pictures section, there is an option of adjusting brightness and contrast, so I used to play with it until my pictures look good.

I also use a lot of filters of different software. I make my picture go through every software and every filter that is available until they look good. My personal favorite is Clarendon filter in Instagram. Besides that I also love and often use Fotor (its here) to edit my pictures.

Be Courageous

You know in writing or reading, this may sound simple, but this is a lot of hard work and time consuming thing. Even after doing all these things when my pictures do not look good, I just take them off or do not upload them at all. So, you have to be courageous about it. I know it hurts, when you do all this hard work and you can't even show it to the world, but if its inspiring you then how can it inspire others.

So, these are the few things that I use and do to take my blog pictures. If there is something that you did not understand and or want to ask, feel free like a birdy that flies in the sky and then drops a shit over you okay it's going somehwere else, leave it.

See ya.

Okay baaaayyyyyyyeeee!
